Study no. 32
Performance Instructions
For 8 strings and/or winds.
Each player is assigned one of the 8 notation aggregates throughout. No more than one player should be assigned each aggregate.
Each aggregate has a dynamic attack cursor and a series of interconnected event nodes.
Each event node corresponds to a specific pitch class. Range is open.
Each time the attack cursor reaches an event node, the player begins sounding the corresponding pitch. This pitch should be sustained until the attack cursor has reached next event node, at which point the pitch will change to that node's corresponding pitch. Each attack should have some dynamic contour lasting the duration it takes for the attack cursor to move from the initial event node to the next event node. Dynamic contour should be varied throughout.
Vibrato should be used sparingly.
Dynamics: P to MF.
Duration: 10 minutes or more.
