Study no. 3 is a brief exploration of how Animated Notation can be used to effectively represent malleable tempo relationships.
Performance Instructions
For string quartet.
Notes are to be played as they cross the vertical attack line. Solid noteheads are to be played pizzicato, open noteheads arco. Open noteheads should be sustained until the end (right side) of the red sustain line has crossed the attack line. An angled line indicates a glissando, the pitch contour of which should be followed.
An arc following a pizzicato note should be interpreted as a small glissando following the initial attack.
Dynamics: Indicated below each staff, from PP to F.
Duration: Approximately 3-4 minutes.
